Coach Arturo is on a mission to transform the culture of player development on the West Coast — starting with the youngest and most formative age groups. Through Elite IQ Football, he’s building more than just technically and tactically sharp players; he’s creating a movement rooted in intentional development, high standards, and empowering Zone One girls to believe in their potential. With a deep commitment to the community, Arturo is changing the way girls are coached and mentored — developing not just better footballers, but more confident leaders. Every session is designed to sharpen decision-making, elevate football IQ, and foster a culture where excellence is earned, and growth is expected.

With an attacking-minded focus, Arturo elevates football intelligence, strengthens technique, and empowers creativity to develop the brightest of players. During his youth, Arturo played club soccer for the Nomads Developmental Academy which eventually led him to play for the San Diego State Men's Club and Division I NCAA team. Arturo began his international experience with AC Milan (Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy) in 2007, FSV Erlangen-Bruck (Erlangen, Germany) in 2012, and lastly, Club Deportivo Montcada (Barcelona, Spain) in 2013.

Arturo holds a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from San Diego State University and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Barry University.

The G2016 crew began training at the beginning of 2023. Fast forward sixteen months & they’ve achieved a monumental objective. Not just winning a major international tournament, but showcasing proper, intelligent, creative, and entertaining football at the 7v7 level. They displayed the program’s identity with pride and bravery. Well done team!

Our identity is built on teaching players how to think, not just what to do—equipping them with the IQ needed to read the game at a high level. Rising Stars: Meet Arturo Hoyos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arturo Hoyos.

Hi Arturo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.

I have been coaching youth soccer since 2011 for various junior academies as well as offering private training for players who want to improve their skills. However, it wasn’t until 2020 that I truly began pursuing coaching as a potential career.

At the beginning of 2020, I was working as a substitute teacher for the Chula Vista Elementary School District and had my future job lined up to teach English in Japan. However, once COVID-19 became an official global pandemic, I was laid off as a substitute and lost the job that was waiting for me in Japan. It was then that I turned to coaching as my main source of income. What started off as a part-time opportunity with just a few players, has now blossomed into an entire soccer academy offering sessions to four age groups as well as private small group training sessions. It was an absolute blessing in disguise.

The California State Soccer Association – South (Cal South) is a 501c(3) California public benefit corporation and is the official youth and adult state soccer association of the United States Soccer Federation, US Youth Soccer, and the United States Adult Soccer Association. The organization, with a service area that extends from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, provides rewarding recreational and competitive opportunities for players of all ages, genders and skill levels.
